How does being queer inform your work?

Most my work is informed by my experiences as a queer trans man. Depictions of trans joy, beauty and strength are integral to my voice as an artist. I want trans and gender nonconforming people to find hope, comfort and power in the little worlds I create.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

Félix González-Torres' "Untitled" (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) has always had an immense impact on me. I believe visual art like this is vital, we cannot forget queer history and the queer people who have lived and died before us.

Which other queer people inspire you?

The people in my community, in Minneapolis. Those that create beautiful and immensely creative spaces for queer artists in our city. Who are unapologetically queer, in every facet of their lives. I would not be the person I am today if not for them.
